The LaGrange baseball team snapped a three-game skid by beating Mary Persons 8-3 on Tuesday.
The Grangers would quickly open the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning courtesy of an error by the Bulldog defense.
LaGrange would double its advantage in the following inning with Gryson Cockrell knocking home a run with a single.
The Grangers would eventually extend the lead out to three runs in the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly from Rob Skinner would do the damage.
Mary Persons refused to go away quietly and struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
LaGrange got a run back in the top of the sixth with Brandon Bennett driving home a run with a single to give the Grangers a 4-2 lead.
That run would prove important, with the Bulldogs scoring a run in the bottom of the inning to trim the deficit to just one run.
The Grangers made sure to put the game to bed in the top of the seventh inning, adding four runs to their lead. Skinner drove home the first two runs of the inning with a single. Mason Calhoun would hit a two-run single later in the inning to close out the scoring.
Skinner led the way from the plate for LaGrange, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Grady Westmorland, Cooper Stephens and Jackson Bozeman also had two hits, while Cockrell, Calhoun and Bennett had one hit each.
Sinjon Lash started on the mound and threw 4 ⅓ innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run on five strikeouts. Westmorland and Bennett each saw time on the mound in relief.
LaGrange improved to 14-9 overall and 8-4 in region play. The Grangers will return to action on Thursday with a road game against Fayette County.
