Mr. Daniel Bryan Cook, a lifelong resident of LaGrange, passed away on March 29, 2025. Dan was born on June 11, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Austin Pope Cook, Jr. and Eleanor Pope Bryan Cook.
Dan graduated from LaGrange High School in 1969, and went on to attend and graduate from LaGrange College in 1973. He was employed with Cole Electrical Service before opening his own business as Dandy Electrical Service. He operated his business until choosing retirement in 2000 to care for his elderly parents.
Dan participated for several years in the LaGrange Optimist Club, sang in the Sons of LaFayette male choir, and for many years taught 7th grade Sunday School at LaGrange First United Methodist Church, played handbells there, and also led congregational singing at Long Cane United Methodist Church. He was most recently a member of Wesley Methodist Church of LaGrange. Dan was a long-time supporter of the musical arts in Troup County. Recipients of his generosity include LaGrange College, LaGrange Symphony, LaGrange Community Band, and the music department of Point University.
Dan had a passion for the outdoors, tinkering with anything with a motor: cars, motorcycles, mowers, clocks. He enjoyed yard work and all types of critters. He was widely known as “the squirrel man,” due to his ability to rescue, rehabilitate, and release orphaned or injured baby squirrels.
You could often find Dan and his brother Austin boating on West Point Lake, where he loved to slalom ski or knee board. Dan taught countless friends how to water ski for the first time.
Dan is survived by his brother, Austin P. Cook III.; and his cousins Susan Irwin Grills, Laura Irwin Rogers, Nancy Irwin Weiss, Linda Bryan Ballard, Carolyn Bryan Schneider, Mary Irwin Spearman, and Melanie Bryan Anderson and their spouses and families, and many friends.
Flowers are welcome, or you may make a donation in Dan’s memory to Wesley Methodist Church of LaGrange, or LaGrange Veterinary Hospital (1200 Lafayette Parkway)
