The LaGrange baseball team is back on track, hammering Fayette County 16-1 on Thursday to earn back-to-back wins.
The Grangers put their mark on the game early with seven runs in the top of the first inning. Mason Calhoun singled to drive in the opening two runs. Brandon Bennet hit a sacrifice fly to drive home a third run for LaGrange. Sinjon Lash doubled to drive home two more runs to make it 5-0. Jackson Bozeman doubled to drive home a run later in the inning and then proceeded to score on a dropped third strike for the final run of the inning.
LaGrange was just getting started, tacking on four additional runs in the second inning. Calhoun’s big day continued as the junior hit a two-run homer to get the scoring started in the second inning. Two batters later, Cooper Stephens hit a two-run bomb of his own to put LaGrange up 11-0.
The Grangers were not done there, stretching their lead out to 12 runs in the third inning courtesy of a Jackson Hester RBI groundout.
LaGrange would take a 14-0 lead in the following inning. Cam Kissun and Mikey Parker each hit RBI singles in the fourth.
Kissun would drive home a second run in the fifth inning on a groundout. Caleb Wood got an RBI groundout in the fifth as well to put the Grangers up 16-0.
The Tigers would score a consolation run in the bottom of the inning, but it had negligible impact on the contest as the game ended by mercy rule after five innings.
Calhoun led the way for the LaGrange offense, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Rob Skinner and Nolan Haines also had two hits each.
Parker, Bozeman, Kissun, Lash, Stephens and Gryson Cockrell all had a hit apiece for the Grangers.
Caleb Allen got the start on the mound and earned the win. Allen pitched two innings, striking out three batters and allowing no hits. Skinner and Jase Foster relieved Allen and combined to allow just one hit over the final three innings.
LaGrange is now 15-9 overall and 9-4 in region play. The Grangers will be back in action at home on Friday with a rematch against the Tigers.
