Sweetland Amphitheater kicks off its 2025 concert series this weekend with country superstar Travis Tritt.

The two-time Grammy winner will take the South’s Sweetest Stage on Friday night at 8 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. It will be a full evening with Travis Tritt, who will perform the full two-hour show.

Tritt will return to Sweetland with his Southern rock-influenced country sound that has captivated audiences for over three decades. Tritt’s first hit single, “Country Club,” propelled the singer-songwriter to stardom in the late 1980s. His album of the same name was just the first of his seven certified-platinum albums.

Tritt continued his success with his next album, “It’s All About to Change,” which sold three million copies and produced multiple top-five hits, including “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’, ” “Here’s a Quarter (Call Someone who Cares)” and “Anymore.”

Over 35 years, Tritt has also charted more than 40 times with 20 top-ten singles, including five number ones, “Help Me Hold On,” “Anymore,” “Can I Trust You with My Heart,” “Foolish Pride” and “Best of Intentions.”

The Georgia-born country star grew from singing in his church choir in Marietta to performing at  Super Bowl XXVIII and the Olympics in Atlanta.

Tritt continues to tour. His most recent work returns to his Georgia roots with a gospel album titled “Country Chapel,” which was released in 2023.

“Travis has a history with Sweetland,” said Sweetland Director Brent Gibbs. “His first appearance was something that people have talked about for years since he’s been here.”

Tritt was first scheduled to appear at Sweetland in a sold-out 2020 show that was canceled during the pandemic. The makeup show in 2021 didn’t quite sell out, but Gibbs expects this weekend’s show to sell out by Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

“Our community loves country music, and to start off the season with Travis, and then to move on to a variety of other genres is going to be great. We’ll have a lot of momentum headed throughout the rest of the season,” Gibbs said.

Gibbs said he is particularly excited to bring JJ Grey & Mofro with the Vegabonds to Sweetland on April 26 and The Allman Betts Band with Tommy Prine on June 7.

“I think those are interesting because we’re trying to recognize that there are people who are 25 to 40, who are moving into our community, and folks who have differing tastes than what has sort of been the red meat of programming in Sweetland,” Gibb said. “I’m excited for those, in sort of trying to present something that appeals to everybody.”

More shows are coming and are expected to be released throughout the season. Gibbs said three more shows will be announced on Friday morning, and a couple more are on the way after that.

Country legend Wynonna Judd will hit the Sweetland stage on June 13. Sweetland is the first stop on the singer’s new tour.

“We are the first stop on Winona Judd’s tour. We’re the first night of the tour. She hasn’t toured in a long time, and we were excited about her return,” Gibbs said. “We were able to get that spot coming right out of Nashville, out of tour rehearsals, and they’re going to come straight to LaGrange and sort of debut that tour, which is pretty exciting and something special for our community.”

With several big country stars coming to Sweetland, including Lyle Lovett on July 25, country fans should be happy. Gibbs said they are actively pursuing a variety of music for everyone, including rock and pop enthusiasts.

“We’re feverishly pursuing rock and pop rock from the 2000s and newer. It’s just a difficult thing to program because they tour differently than some other artists do. They’re very geographically oriented. So if they’re going to the northeast or they’re going out west … I can’t throw enough money at them to have them decide to come to LaGrange just because we want them,” Gibbs said.

“One thing we have coming on Friday will definitely scratch the itch for people who like harder rock, and then we have one more that’ll be in the announcement in May that’ll scratch that itch as well,” Gibbs said.
