First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange is once again accepting applications for the Jan Tolbert Community Grants, which provide up to $2,500 to support local nonprofit organizations. These grants are intended to help 501(c)(3) nonprofits launch new programs or expand existing services, strengthening their impact in the community.

The grants were named in honor of Pastor Jan Tolbert, who worked diligently to help establish this grant process upon her retirement from First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange in 2022.

Grants are awarded once per year and may not be used for operational expenses.

Organizations may apply annually until their project is funded; however, once an organization receives funding, it must wait three years before applying again. Upon completion of the grant, recipients must submit a report detailing how the funds were used and the impact of their project.

The recipients of the 2024 grants include:

  • LaGrange/Troup County Homeless Coalition, which was awarded $2,500 to support the purchase of an HVAC system for the Branches of Hope Center.
  • Heart of West GA, which was awarded $1,000 to purchase AEDs for the community.
  • Troup Cares, which was awarded $1,000 for the purchase of essential medical supplies and prescriptions.
  • Twin Cedars, which was awarded $500 to help pay for the costs of mental health counseling for children.
  • Biblical History Center, which was awarded $1,000 for the expansion of their STEAM curriculum, integrating science, technology, arts and math with biblical history.
  • Ujima Tribe, which was awarded $1,000 for their “Planted Roots” program that brings fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income areas and offers children hands-on educational experiences in community gardening.
  • Feeding the Valley, which was awarded $2,000 to expand its hunger relief programs and address food insecurity in Troup County.
  • Circles of Troup County, which was awarded $1,000 to enhance programs in housing stability, offering financial literacy and tenant education through training on Georgia renters’ rights.

The application process is now open, with submissions due by June 1. Interested organizations can apply at fpclagrange.org/grants. For more information, contact mission@fpclagrange.org.
