On Friday morning, Sweetland Amphitheatre announced a trio of additions to their 2025 concert lineup.
Sweetland is adding concerts from Tyrese Gibson, Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters, and Big & Rich.
Tyrese Gibson will highlight a Community Juneteenth Celebration Concert on June 19.
Tyrese Gibson was born and raised in Watts, a neighborhood of Los Angeles. At the age of 16, he was discovered after being cast in a Coca-Cola commercial. A self-titled debut album quickly followed as did an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B New Artist. Gibson has since released five more studio albums and garnered six GRAMMY Award nominations.
His most recent studio album, “Black Rose,” debuted at #1 on the Billboard R&B Albums Chart and featured the single “Shame,” which was #1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart for 16 consecutive weeks.
Along with his signature role as Roman Pearce in six Fast & Furious films, including Justin Lin’s F9 released this summer, Gibson is internationally recognized for playing Robert Epps in Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise.
Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters will perform with special guest Mark Collie on Aug. 23.
Although you undoubtedly know Billy Bob Thornton from his extensive acting career, you may not know that he is also the frontman for a successful rock band, The Boxmasters. Formed in 2007, The Boxmasters have recorded an impressive and diverse catalogue of music that touches on their love of a wide array of influences, but most importantly, the rock and roll of the 1960’s.
Since forming The Boxmasters, several long-time friends have contributed to the sound of the band, but the core of The Boxmasters has always been Andrew and Thornton. As primary songwriters, the sound of the Boxmasters has been an evolution as the duo constantly strive to find new inspiration, new sounds and new ways of expressing what is in their hearts and on their minds. But at the core, there is a backbeat, a lyric with meaning and music played with emotion.
As a touring band, The Boxmasters have cultivated a rabid cult fanbase across the United States and Canada. Opening for the likes of ZZ Top, Steve Miller and Los Lobos, The Boxmasters have proven to win over large audiences. As a headliner, frequent stops in Kansas City at “Knuckleheads”, Springfield, Illinois at “Boondocks” and “Merrimack Hall” in Huntsville, Alabama have shown dedicated yet still growing audiences.
Music duo Big & Rich will perform an early autumn fall show on Sept. 12.
Big & Rich are America’s Technicolor Cowboys, brothers-in-arms in service to the creed that great music has no boundaries. Individually, Big Kenny and John Rich are first-rate musicians, songwriters, producers, entertainers. Together, they are one of the most truly original musical forces ever unleashed on a welcoming world.
Big & Rich have made a career of being relatable and musically relevant since exploding into the public consciousness in 2003 as the rarest of breeds—true country music game changers. With 2004’s triple-platinum “Horse of a Different Color,” they were able to tap into the best strands of a wide spectrum of popular music, filter them through their pens and voices and produce a sound that is instantly recognizable, if not classifiable.
