A rainy day could not slow down the LaGrange High baseball team as the Grangers went on the road and beat Columbus 6-0 for the team’s fourth win in a row.

The Grangers opened the scoring with a trio of runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back from there. A Gryson Cockrell RBI single broke the deadlock early. Mason Calhoun followed with an RBI ground out and Brandon Bennett hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give LaGrange an early lead it would never surrender.

Bennett would drive in his second run of the game on a single in the third inning, stretching the Granger lead out to 4-0.

The Grangers would tack on a fifth run in the fourth inning courtesy of a Grady Westmorland RBI double.

LaGrange would add a sixth and final run in the fifth inning when Sinjon Lash hit a double that drove home a run.

The offense was potent, but the game was dominated by the Granger pitching staff. Kayden Sutton started on the mound and was tremendous in his six innings of work, striking out nine batters while allowing just three hits. Bennett pitched the final inning and got three straight outs to end the game.

Westmorland led the LaGrange offense with two hits while Lash, Cockrell, Bennett and Rob Skinner all had a hit apiece.

LaGrange has now won four games in a row, an impressive bounce-back after a three-game skid just a couple of weeks ago. The Grangers are now 17-9 overall and remained 10-4 in region play. LaGrange will play another non-region opponent on Tuesday when Callaway comes to Granger Park.
