Pay It Forward 2K15 will hold a free produce giveaway on May 10 to help local seniors.

The event is organized by Executive Chairwoman Melissa Neal and hosted with the help of LaGrange Councilman Quay Boddie. Pay It Forward 2K15 is a 501c3 Non-Profit that works to serve the community providing needed personal effects, resources, clothing, food, school supplies, monetary donations and spiritual guidance to those who are experiencing hardships in life.

The fresh produce will be provided by Feeding the Valley, another nonprofit organization that addresses hunger in the community by providing food to smaller food banks, churches, nonprofits and other community organizations that directly disburse the food to those in need.

Boddie said the event will be targeting 65-plus seniors.

Pay It Forward 2K15 has hosted several similar events at Lafayette Christian with significant demand. A previous Thanksgiving donation had cars waiting starting at 6 a.m. and lining up in the street.

“We’re trying to make sure that the priority is the seniors,” Boddie said, noting seniors are often forgotten when people are looking to help the community.

The produce will be first come, first serve, so Boddie encourages people to come early, but they will have lots of produce to give away.

“Anything that Melissa Neil puts on for Pay It Forward 2K15 is always a blast, and there’s always an abundance of things. She does a lot of great work, not only here, but also in the Atlanta area,” Boddie said.

Neal founded Pay It Forward 2K15 in 2015 after sensing a need to assist the community in which she grew up.

“She’s a native of LaGrange, so she always wants to make sure she gives back to her hometown,” Boddie said.

The event will serve folks from Troup, Harris, Meriweather and Talbot counties.

The produce giveaway will be held in the parking lot of Lafayette Christian School at 1904 Hamilton Road in LaGrange on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon.
