The Troup baseball team cruised to its 13th straight win on Wednesday, topping region foe Sandy Creek 19-4.

The Tigers quickly took a lead and never looked back from there. Troup scored two runs in the first inning courtesy of a Davis Moncus RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Carson Walker.

The Tigers would add a third run to their tally in the second inning with Ethan Goff driving home a run on a single.

Troup would take a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Chase Mosley laid down a sacrifice bunt.

The Patriots looked like they would make it a game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third, but the Troup offense would keep plugging away.

Troup immediately replied with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to retake a four-run lead. Senior Fisher Baltzell singled to drive home the first two runs of the inning. Mosley walked with the bases loaded to send the third and final run of the inning home.

The Tigers would continue to add to their lead with three additional runs in the fifth inning. A trio of errors from the Sandy Creek defense would allow all three runs to score.

The Patriots would get a consolation run in the bottom of the fifth.

Troup would end the game by mercy rule with nine runs in the sixth inning. Cason Spears drove in the initial run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Torreion Delaney walked with the bases loaded to drive home a second and make it 12-4 to Troup.

Parker Townsend scored on a wild pitch for Troup’s 13th run. Moncus drove the following run home with a sacrifice fly. Walker singled to drive home a run and give the Tigers a 12-run lead. Spears was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Troup a 17-4 lead. Goff brought the final two runs home with a double.

Goff had a terrific offensive showing, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Mosley, Walker, Baltzell, Moncus, Garrison Edwards and Chandler Glisson all had a hit apiece for Troup.

Jake Perry started on the mound and gave the Tigers a quality three innings in which he allowed five hits and three earned runs on five strikeouts. Spears pitched the final three innings for Troup, allowing just one hit on six strikeouts.

Troup improved to 19-6 overall and 12-1 in region play. The Tigers are inching closer to capturing the region title and will rematch the Patriots at home on Thursday with a chance to seal the deal. The Tigers are also looking to tie their program record for wins in a row with 14.
