The Troup baseball team won its 15th straight game on Monday, topping Lafayette Christian School 15-0 to officially set the new school record for consecutive wins.

The previous record was 14 wins in a row back in 2021.

The Tigers got right down to business on Monday. After a scoreless top of the first inning, Troup broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Chase Mosley cleared the bases with a double to give Troup a 3-0 lead. A Jake Perry RBI single gave the Grangers a 4-0 advantage. Torreion Delaney would hit a two-run single to round out the scoring in the inning.

Troup’s offense did not slow down from there, adding seven more runs in the second inning. An error allowed the first run of the inning to score, and the Tigers were off to the races from there. A wild pitch would allow a second Troup base runner to reach home in the inning. Perry singled to drive home two additional runs and give Troup a 10-0 lead. Ethan Goff hit a sacrifice fly to send the 11th run home. An error and a Garrison Edwards RBI single saw the Tigers take a 13-0 lead heading to the third inning.

Both teams moved runners into scoring position in the third inning, but both teams failed to score.

The Tigers would eventually get back to scoring, putting two runs past the Cougars in the fourth to end the game by mercy rule.

Parker Townsend sent the first run home with a single. Carson Walker would end the game with an RBI single.

Ryan Cantrell started on the mound for Troup and threw two innings before being replaced by Carson Williams, who pitched the following 1 ⅔ innings. Edwards got the final out for the Tigers on the mound. The trio combined to allow just two hits.

Hughes and Landon Childree each had one hit for the Cougars.

Josiah Hughes started on the mound for the Cougars before making way for Cody Batistini. Dustin Ogle pitched the final two innings for the Cougars.

Edwards and Perry led the Tigers with two hits apiece while Delaney, Goff, Mosley, Moncus, Townsend, Walker and Fisher Baltzell all registered one hit each.

Troup improved to 21-6 overall and remained 13-1 in region play. The Tigers will travel to take on region foe Whitewater on Tuesday. Troup has already locked up the Region 2-3A championship.

Lafayette Christian fell to 15-4. The Cougars will return to the diamond on Tuesday, away to Creekside Christian.
