Former LPD officer charged with child molestation

A former LaGrange Police officer has been arrested and accused of molesting a teenage girl.

Samuel Ray Ham, 59, was charged with child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

Ham had worked at the LaGrange Police Department as a Gang Investigator before becoming an instructor at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC).

According to records from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), the victim is a 14-year-old girl from Loganville.

Ham served as division director of the Georgia Police Academy but was terminated following his arrest, according to GPSTC officials.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has also launched an investigation into the case.

Ham was arrested by WCSO at Waffle House in Monroe, GA, on April 13, according to jail records. He is currently being held without bond.
