The Troup baseball team continued to extend its program record winning streak on Tuesday with an 18-6 demolition of Whitewater for the Tigers’ 16th straight victory.
The Tigers put a marker of intent down in the top of the first inning with four runs to take an early advantage. A Carson Waller sacrifice fly would break the deadlock. Davis Moncus scored on a wild pitch before Chase Mosley drove in a pair of runs with a single.
A passed ball allowed Torreion Delaney to score the opening run of the inning. Walker would get an RBI ground out to give Troup a 6-0 lead.
The Wildcats would respond with two runs in the bottom of the second and one in the third inning, but it did little to slow down the Troup avalanche.
The Tigers answered with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-3 lead. An error allowed the first Troup run of the inning to score and the Tigers kept on going from there. Brady Willis knocked in a pair of runs with a single. Jake Perry drove in the final run of the inning with a single.
Troup would put the Wildcats to the sword in the following inning, scoring eight runs in the fifth.
Whitewater scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the game was ended by mercy rule after five innings.
It was a monster day for Garrison Edwards at the plate as the junior was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Both his home run and his single came in the fifth inning as the Tigers batted around.
Edwards went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Tiger offense.
Hits came from up and down the lineup, with Delaney, Walker and Willis all finishing the game with two hits. Mosley and Perry had a hit apiece for Troup.
Mosley went all five innings on the mound for the Tigers.
Troup is now 22-6 overall and 14-1 in the region. The Tigers have already wrapped up the region championship but will play their final region game of the season on the road to Whitewater on Thursday.
