Troup dominates Stephenson, punches ticket to the Sweet 16

The Troup baseball team blasted Stephenson in both games of a first-round doubleheader on Friday to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16.
GAME ONE:
Troup – 15
Stephenson – 0
The Tigers put down a marker of intent early, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Carson Walker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to break the early deadlock. Fisher Baltzell hit an RBI single, and an error that followed gave Troup a 3-0 advantage. An error later in the inning allowed a fourth Troup run to score. Torreion Delaney drove in a pair of runs with a single. A sacrifice bunt from Garrison Edwards and a triple from Davis Moncus drove in the final two runs of the inning.
The Tigers continued to pour it on, adding five runs in the second inning. Trey Dean scored on a passed ball to score the first run of the inning. An error and a wild pitch allowed the following two runs to score, extending the Troup lead out to 11-0. Moncus continued his dominance in the game with a two-run single to close out the scoring in the top of the inning.
The Tigers would end the game by mercy rule with a pair of runs in the third inning. A wild pitch allowed one run to score, and an RBI ground out from Chad Mosley ended the game.
Moncus led the way with three hits while Baltzell, Delaney, Ethan Goff and Jake Perry all had a hit apiece.
Perry pitched all three innings, allowing just one hit.
GAME TWO:
Troup – 14
Stephenson – 0
The Tigers picked up right where they left off in game two. Troup put five runs on the board in the top of the first and never looked back from there. Carson Walker brought the boom early with a three-run homer to get the Tigers off and running. Cason Spears scored on a wild pitch for the fourth run of the contest. An error allowed a fifth run to reach home in the inning.
Troup added to its lead in the third inning with six runs. Chase Mosley hit a one-run single to get the scoring party started in the inning. Mosley found home later in the inning on a passed ball. Moncus hit a one-run single, followed by a two-run single from Walker that gave Troup a 10-0 lead. Baltzell hit a triple to drive home the final run of the inning.
The Tigers never slowed down and added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Perry doubled to drive home the first run of the inning. Baltzell hit an RBI single later in the inning to stretch the Troup lead out to 13-0. A Mosley triple drove home the final run of the series.
The game ended by mercy rule after five innings.
Walker led the way for the Troup offense with two hits and five RBIs. Baltzell and Mosley also had two hits. Moncus, Perry, Brady Willis, Parker Townsend, Goff and Courtney Wilson all had a hit each.
Moncus started on the mound and dominated in his three innings of work, striking out three batters and allowing no hits. Cason Spears pitched the final two innings and combined with Moncus to pitch a no-hitter.
WHAT’S NEXT:
Troup will host either Southeast Bulloch or Dawson County in the second round of the GHSA 3A state playoffs. A doubleheader will be hosted on Thursday, with a potential game three scheduled for Friday.
