Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Former Callaway High School football player Elijah Gunn put his name in the NCAA portal this spring and found a new home at the University of Cincinnati.

Gunn will be heading two states east from his former home, Southern Illinois University. The Callaway alum redshirted his freshman year before seeing the field in 2024. Gunn played in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman, recording 19 tackles and .5 tackles for a loss. His best game came against South Dakota State when he registered three defensive stops.

Gunn is officially listed as a redshirt sophomore and has three years of eligibility left.

The 6’3″, 290-pound defensive tackle will be making a big jump, going from FCS to FBS (the highest level of college football).

Before making his way to the college ranks, Gunn was a star for the Callaway Cavaliers from 2019 to 2022. He was named to the All-State team once and the honorable mention list once as well, and was a two-time All-Region selection. Gunn helped the Cavaliers capture their only state championship in 2020. Gunn finished his senior season with 37 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks en route to being named to the GACA All-State team.

The Callaway alum will suit up for the Bearcats for the first time on Aug. 28 when they play host to Nebraska for their season opener.
