The Biblical History Center (BHC), a cornerstone of tourism and historical education in Troup County, announces an important leadership transition as current Executive Director and CEO Carlos Cantu steps into a new role, and Benjamin Stevens is appointed to lead the Center into its next chapter.

Since taking the helm in 2019, Carlos Cantu has been a transformative force for the BHC. When he arrived, the Center was just two weeks away from bankruptcy. Through his vision, relentless dedication, and strong community partnerships, he not only stabilized the organization but grew it into a nationally and regionally recognized destination. Under Cantu’s leadership, the BHC now welcomes nearly 20,000 visitors annually and contributes significantly to the local economy through tourism-driven development.

“It’s been an honor to serve this community and work with community pillars like the Callaway Foundation, who do so much for this area,” said Cantu. “I can’t wait to see the Center impact more people than ever with Benjamin Stevens at the helm.”

Stevens, a passionate educator and student of biblical archaeology, first joined the BHC with a servant’s heart and a deep love for ancient history. Raised homeschooled and known for his “stern but liberating” leadership style, he brings a blend of academic rigor and heartfelt faith to his new role. Stevens believes in the power of historical storytelling to shape lives and is committed to helping people, especially young minds, connect with the biblical world in transformative ways.

“Understanding history is understanding ourselves,” Stevens says. “My faith drives everything I do, and I’m honored to continue building on the Center’s legacy.”

Outside the BHC, Stevens enjoys life with his wife Madison and his mom Lori, catching Auburn football games, and relaxing with a good video game. He draws personal inspiration from King David—a flawed yet faithful leader.

As the Biblical History Center enters this exciting new phase, both Cantu and Stevens are confident in the Center’s growing impact and continued service to Troup County and beyond. With strong community ties and a renewed sense of purpose, the BHC is poised to make ancient history come alive for generations to come.
