Downtown LaGrange will host a series of street parties each month all summer long, starting in two weeks.

Starting May 16, Sweetland Amphitheatre and Wild Leap Brewery will hold a series of three street parties with live music, food and fun on Main Street in LaGrange. The block parties will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on the third Friday of each month during the summer. Main Street will be closed off from Lafayette Square to Wild Leap to allow for a pedestrian-friendly zone with live entertainment, local vendors, and special promotions.

Sweetland Amphitheatre is partnering with Wild Leap and Visit LaGrange to hold the series of street parties.

Lizzie Simpson of Sweetland said they will have a stage at the top of Main Street near Flag Pole Park with live music. Wild Leap will also have live performances.

“We hope that people will walk back and forth and enjoy music all along the way. We’ll also have vendors on the street with a bunch of tents with local artists and local businesses,” Simpson said.

The event is free for the public and even vendors to join.

“We want it to be an opportunity to really give local businesses and artists an opportunity to show what they do,” Simpson said.

Simpson said the summer street parties were the brainchild of Kathy Tilley of Visit LaGrange. 

“We always talk about how Wild Leap is at one end of Main Street and Sweetland is at the other, so it’s kind of fun that we’re kind of bringing something together in the middle of Main Street,” Simpson said.

Other cities have done similar events like this that worked well for them, and we wanted to bring something like it to our community. It’s also a way for Sweetland and Wild Leap to bring entertainment to LaGrange in different ways, she said.

“This is just a way for us to do it together and make it free for the community and to celebrate summer,” Simpson said. 

The summer street parties will be held May 16, June 20 and July 18 from 5 to 10 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown LaGrange.
