Remember Field Day in school? The egg toss, playing tug-of-war or running the three-legged race? It was the best day of school and Kane Bradfield of Clockwork Youth Academy is bringing it back later this month in a fun community event to raise money for kids.

On May 17, Clockwork Youth Academy will host Clockwork Games: A Community Field Day Fundraiser at Granger Park.

The event will include a day of friendly competition for both kids and adults, all in support of scholarships to a seven-week youth camp for disadvantaged student-athletes. Bradfield runs the camp, Clockwork Youth Academy, which is in its third year.

“We wanted to get the community involved and go back to the old fun back in school. Field Day was the highlight of every year and bringing back that feeling back was important to me,” Bradfield said.

The goal for the event is to provide scholarships for 60 kids to attend the camp. The more money the event raises, the more they can do for them, Bradfield said.

The annual summer camp runs from June 2 through July 25 for kids from 7 to 11 years old. Applications are still available for this year’s camp. The camp provides mentorship over the summer for young student athletes.

“We use sports as a catalyst to help with academics and to help with behavior,” Bradfield said.  “It’s definitely like a school vibe, because you are going to be doing course training, because it’s for athletes.”

Bradfield said the camp does training on multiple sports, but it also has an academic component.

“We’re going to work on math and literature, things like that. We’ll have two days of financial literacy and two days of group therapy,” Bradfield said. “We have a garden so kids can work with nature in our garden throughout the seven weeks.

They will also go on field trips and have guest speakers throughout the camp, Bradfield said.

The field day event will feature plenty of fun games and competition for the whole family. There will be activities for kids beyond the field day games. They plan on having bounce houses, face painting, a dunk tank and food vendors.

“Even if you don’t participate and have a team in the event, still bring the kids out to have fun,” Bradfield said.

Events include tug-of-war, egg toss, 3-legged race, sack race, relay race, jump rope contest and more. Ten events in total are planned for the competition.

Team registration is $500 for adult teams and $300 for youth teams with a minimum of 10 participants per team. Teams must include at least two female participants. Registration ends May 9.

The Clockwork Games Field Day will be held Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Granger Park in LaGrange.
