Inmate taken to hospital after being found unresponsive in Troup County Jail

On May 9th at approximately 12:30 p.m., an inmate in the Troup County Jail was found hanging from a bed sheet and unresponsive in an inmate housing unit.
Detention Officers immediately called for assistance and other jail staff, along with jail medical staff, responded to the housing unit.
Troup County Fire Department and AMR responded to the jail as well.
Life-saving measures began on the inmate and he was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center where he is still under critical care. The inmate is identified as Raymond Wardlaw, 56 years of age, and he was in jail on charges of Obstruction of an Officer (Fel), Simple Battery (Mis), Criminal Trespass-Damage to Property (Mis), Burglary-Forced Entry (Fel), and Interference with Government Property (Fel).
As standard procedure, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations was notified and is conducting an independent investigation. Nothing further at this time.
