Nicholas “Nick” Donald Woodson, 84, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Nick was born July 19, 1940, in LaGrange, GA to the late Carlton Esque Woodson and Blanche Donaldson Woodson.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Swanson Woodson; son, Chris (Phyllis) Woodson; daughters, Allison (Nate) Strickland and LeAnn (Chris) Squier; grandchildren, Josh Webb, Kendall (Cody) Anderson, Payton Barr, Eli Squier, Woody (Ainsley) Squier, Sam Squier, Daniel Woodson and Sawyer Woodson; great-grandchildren, Carter Anderson and Ellie Kae Anderson; siblings, Patsy Reed and Carlton Woodson Jr..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Carol Woodson and sister, Linda Frescoln.
Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nick started his young career with Georgia Power and about eight years later, he joined his father-in-law in a business partnership with City Oil Company where he spent the rest of his career working and building.
In addition to raising a family and building a successful business, Nick served his community that he loved so dearly. He was elected to the City Council in 1998 and served in that capacity until 2017. For his outstanding leadership and service, the LPD awarded him with an honorary badge as a member of the police force.
His service didn’t stop there, he was a member of the Jaycees, a Boy Scout Leader and Eagle Scout Board of Review member. He was a member of the GA Oilman’s Association and Crime Stoppers.
Nick’s greatest accolade would be that he was a Christian. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church on the Square. He served his church in many areas including being a Deacon and a member of the church Orchestra.
Nick will be greatly missed, but we are left to cherish the legacy and impact he made on his family, his church and the community.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2025, in the Chaple of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. The Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 17, 2025 at First Baptist Church on the Square.
