During the final school board meeting of the 2024-2025 school year, Troup County wrapped up some business and celebrated its own.
Following the work session on Tuesday, where the board discussed the new state requirement of certifying an estimated rollback millage rate, they approved the measure. Local tax offices must send out notices to property owners to get an idea on their tax bills, however the notices are sent out before the millage rate is finalized. The rollback rate is only an estimate and while the board did certify the rate of 16.436 mills it is not final.
During Thursday’s meeting the board also:
- Approved $155,476.99 to be paid to the Troup County Archives for the records storage and management services from July 1, 2025 to June 10, 2026. These funds were budgeted in the F26 general fund.
- Adopted a proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month
- Tentatively approved FY2026 budget presented on April 14, 2025. The final budget will be approved in June.
- Approved Liability Insurance from the Georgia School Boards Association in the amount of $1,251,274 to come from the FY26 general fund.
Before the regular meeting, TCSB celebrated some of the accomplishments of its students, staff and community members.
The Ann Woodward Educational Excellence Award for Professional Development presented a $1,000 grant to Aiden Blackwell, this year’s TCSS Teacher of the Year. The award is given on behalf of the Ann Woodward Educational Excellence Fund at the Community Foundation of the Chattachoochee Valley. The two organizations gave Blackwell the grant to use towards any professional learning opportunities he chooses.
Lorie Anderson, a representative from the Fund and daughter of Ann Woodward presented the grant. Woodward was a longtime Troup County teacher.
