The Kiwanis Club of LaGrange is set to host its 12th Annual Clay Shoot Tournament on June 6.
The sporting clay shoot tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Kiwanis and the work they do for local students. The Kiwanis help fund several student initiatives like the Terrific Kids program, Communities in Schools of Troup County, Positive Behavior in Schools (PBIS), and, of course, scholarships.
The clay shoot is one of the two major fundraisers held by the local Kiwanis, along with their annual Pancake Breakfast.
The clay shoot is a team tournament with awards for the top team and the top three individual shooters. The top junior shooter and the top father-son combo also receive trophies.
Craig Deloach, of the LaGrange Kiwanis, said that the teams will be whittled down to the top eight and continue after lunch with a “Calcutta Auction,” where the shooters are auctioned off and participants can ‘buy’ the shooter in the Calcutta. Those who bought into the winners later get a portion of the funds raised from the pot.
There will also be raffle prizes, including guns and other items donated by sponsors. The onsite raffle prizes include four shotguns, a pair of chainsaws, a welding machine from Lynarc Welding, a folding climbing ladder and many other power tools.
Registration fees are $600 for four-person teams and $500 for first responder teams. Participants are required to bring their own shotguns; however, ammunition will be available on-site for $14 per box.
Preregistration is preferred. Deloach said they are full, but if a late team wants to participate, they can likely fit in.
The entry fee also includes lunch from Sloppy Pig BBQ. Spectators are also invited for lunch and festivities at $20 per person.
The Clay Shoot will be held Friday, June 6, starting at 8 a.m. at Red Oak Plantation at 8428 Greenville Street in Gay, Georgia. An alternate rain date is scheduled for June 13.
