During the June 3 Board of Commissioners meeting, the county approved adding construction of a new finance office to the ongoing work to finish Courtroom 3C in the government center.

Assistant County Manager Jay Anderson said that the staff accountant, Triston Dozier, is currently working out of a cubicle in the Board of Commissioners’ office, and staff would like to move him to his own office.

“As of this time, we don’t have another office up in that area. We’d like to move him into an enclosed office for several reasons, for privacy, for the accounting data and stuff that sits on his desk and privacy reasons,” Anderson said.

There is an office that has been used as a file room for the finance department, but there are also County Clerk’s Office files for legal documents, Anderson said.

Anderson requested that the board approve the build-out of a new file room. That would then allow those files to be moved from the office into the new file room, and then utilize the office as a proper finance office.

“We would then be able to move Triston into that office so he has his own private office, instead of sitting out in the open in a cubicle,” Anderson said.

Since Principle Construction is already on site for the courtroom construction, they were asked for a quote to build the new file room in the commission office.

“It’s an economical sense, since they’re already here. They already have a framer here, framing out there. Have a sheet rock guy, painter and electrician. They already have all the subcontractors here … finishing up those items in the courtroom,” Anderson said. “It made economic sense to allow Principle to move forward with this small project, which will help with our staffing and the finance office.”

Principle provided a quote of $10,365 for the project, which the Board of Commissioners approved unanimously.
