Football is in the air. The pads are out, the cleats are laced, and local teams are traveling around the southeast to take part in a series of 7v7 tournaments, including the Troup Tigers going up to Georgia State and winning the Dell McGee Classic on Thursday.

“It was a really good competition and we actually had two different teams in the tournament, one with the older guys and one with the younger guys,” Glisson said. “The older guys went undefeated, and it was good to build some confidence and get some live reps, but we have to remember it’s only 7-on-7.”

This is just the start of a long summer leading up to the 2025 season for Troup.

“It was our first real competition of the summer, and we are behind and playing catch-up because we had 10 players who didn’t practice in the spring because they were a part of the state championship-winning baseball team,” Glisson said. “We have been down our top two quarterbacks this spring.”

The Tigers have been without Garrison Edwards and Chase Mosley, the team’s top two quarterbacks, during the spring as the two helped lead the baseball team to a state championship. Edwards, the team’s starter and soon-to-be senior, has multiple Division I offers, and his presence has been missed in the spring. He began to find his footing this summer during the tournament at Georgia State.

“Garrison got his legs under him about halfway through the tournament,” Glisson said.

Mosley, the team’s backup quarterback, looks to be a starter at cornerback this year and has been running with the first team defense.

Glisson is also the head coach of the baseball team and has been reliant on his assistant coaches this spring, with his duties on the diamond calling his name until late in May.

“I think playing in these types of tournaments is extremely important right now,” Glisson said. “I was not able to attend spring practice, so it’s a great chance to see what these guys can do against other competition.”

There were some standouts on both sides of the ball as the Tigers marched towards the tournament title.

“I thought at wide receiver that Davis Moncus and Blaze Bell looked really good, and I thought Spencer Cohen was a pleasant surprise as well,” Glisson said. “Defensively, Dee Moreland, one of the basketball players we got out here, looked really good at free safety.”

Tournaments like the one at Georgia State also give the Tigers a chance to showcase their talent to coaches at the next level. Rising junior running back Javarris Warner and rising sophomore offensive lineman Tavian Edwards walked away with offers from the Georgia State football program.

“You go up there and you go undefeated, and you have no injuries, and you get two offers. That’s a really productive day for us,” Glisson said.

The Tigers are looking for a bounce-back season in 2025. A young Troup team went 5-5 last season in a stacked region and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015, Glisson’s first year as head coach at Troup.
