Martha (Tiny) Yarbrough Bowen, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Twin Fountains Home.

Born on Sand Mountain in Geraldine, Alabama, on September 2, 1929, Martha was the daughter of Mrs. Ida Duke Yarbrough and William Cage Yarbrough.

Her family made their home in LaGrange, Georgia, when she was just seven years old, and it was here that she built a life full of faith, family, and service.

She was married to Billy Leon Bowen for 73 years until his passing in 2021.

She is survived by her devoted children, Charlene Bowen Yates (Charles) of Montgomery, Alabama, and Derek Leon Bowen (Carol) of LaGrange, Georgia.

She was a proud grandmother to Mollye Yates Gunnells (Ross) of Montgomery and Sarah Yates Prehmus (Drew) of Atlanta, and her four great-granddaughters brought her endless joy: Ann Yates Gunnells, Lucy Elizabeth Gunnells, Catherine James Gunnells, and Elizabeth Ada Prehmus.

Martha lived a life of quiet strength and deep faith. She worked for 44 years with Callaway Mills and Milliken, where she earned the respect of many for her hard work and dedication.

She served faithfully at Hillside Christian Church for 25 years, leading youth, teaching Sunday school, and guiding women in mission work.

Later, she continued her walk with the Lord at Baptist Tabernacle and loved worshipping there until she was homebound. She enjoyed many things—reading, quilting, leading Girl Scouts, telling stories, serving others, and showing her family what it meant to live fully and to love generously.

She taught her children and grandchildren to live with purpose, to be kind, and to never take a single blessing for granted.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private graveside service was held for the family on Friday, June 27th, at 11 A.M. at Shadowlawn Cemetery.

A celebration of Martha’s life will take place at Baptist Tabernacle on the morning of August 4th.
