UPDATE:
The Troup County Coroner’s Office has identified the female victim as 58-year-old Daphne Jennings. The incident is still under investigation.
—
On June 30 at 9:09 p.m., Troup County 911 received a 911 call from an adult female from a home in the 200 block of Mountain Laurel Drive in which she was threatening to kill herself, along with threats made to harm anyone that came in her house. Deputies from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched along with Troup County AMR to stage in the area should they be needed.
Deputies arrived on scene and immediately began to attempt to communicate with the female in the home through verbal commands and having 911 operators try calling her phone. Several times the female would talk to the dispatcher and hang up the phone and the deputies were never able to make direct contact with her.
This back and forth continued for more than 30 minutes and shortly after 10:00 p.m., the female opened the front door pointing a handgun directly at the deputies. Having no other option, the deputies shot the female, who then fell inside the home. Immediately, the deputies called for AMR and fire personnel, and they begin lifesaving measures on the female who died on scene.
As standard protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene to begin an independent investigation. The deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Nothing further at this time.
