The West Point Police Department, in response to the ongoing need for safer interactions between youth and law enforcement, will host a town hall with the aim of educating the public about de-escalation techniques with law enforcement.
Sponsored by personal injury attorneys Hall and Lampros out of Atlanta, the initiative aims to reduce the number of individuals involved in altercations with police personnel.
Members of advocacy groups, including the local chapter of the NAACP, local spiritual leaders, and law enforcement agencies, are collaborating to promote peaceful interactions between law enforcement and the community.
The special host for the event will be West Point Police Chief Kevin Carter.
Topics discussed throughout the meeting will revolve around data suggesting that the sixth highest cause of death for Black youth results from interaction with law enforcement.
During the meeting, attendees can expect to hear firsthand accounts of interactions with police, along with strategies for safely navigating encounters. Additionally, attendees will be encouraged to share ideas for outreach and submit community action plans.
The event will take place on July 12 at the West Point Technology Center at 1122 O.G. Skinner Dr. from 10 a.m. to noon.
