During a pair of public hearings on Monday, the Troup County School System announced its intentions to leave the school tax millage at the current rate.
School Superintendent Rachel Hazel gave a brief presentation on the proposed millage. Dr. Hazel recommended the board approve continuing the current rate of 17.35 mills.
As previously advertised, the total local property tax digest has increased. The state requires public hearings when more property taxes are expected to be collected due to increased assessments. Due to increased new construction and increased property taxes, school tax assessments are expected to increase by about 8.07 percent.
However, if the assessed value of your real property remains the same as the previous year, then you will see no change in taxes for school purposes.
The school millage rate has remained unchanged in Troup County since 2022, when it was lowered from 18.85 mills to the current rate of 17.35 mills.
No one from the general public spoke during the public hearings.
A final public hearing will be held before adoption on July 7 at 6 p.m. at the TCSS Administrative Services Center on North Davis Road in LaGrange.
