Work will close Hammet Road bridge

HOGANSVILLE – The Georgia Department of Transportation is getting ready to rebuild a bridge on Hammett Road so that it can better handle traffic, but with that construction comes temporary detours.

The bridge between 2706 Hammett Road and 2775 Hammett Road – which spans a Yellow Jacket Creek tributary – is scheduled to be closed so that it can be rebuilt in coming months. The Georgia Department of Transportation expects the project to take a maximum nine months, and when it is rebuilt, the bridge should to be able to hold vehicles of any “legal weight,” according to county officials.

Signs notifying residents of the detour around the construction may go up as early as next week according County Engineer James Emery, and construction is scheduled to begin on March 13.
