1 hurt in 3-car wreck

HOGANSVILLE — One person was hurt in a three-car chain wreck in the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near mile marker 27 about 12:15 p.m. on Monday.

The driver of a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis had a tire blow out on his car on the interstate, said the Georgia State Patrol.

The man’s girlfriend was traveling behind him in a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria with her flashers on to warn people, stated Sgt. 1st Class Maurice Raines, commander of GSP Post 2 LaGrange.

A driver of a third car, identified as a 2016 BMW X3, came up behind the Crown Victoria at a high rate of speed and hit the back of the car, Raines said.

The collision caused the driver in the Crown Victoria to lose control of their car and veer off into the median of I-85. She complained of minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The woman also had four children inside the car during the wreck, said Raines. They were not injured and no one else was hurt in the accident.

The collision snarled traffic in the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 and caused cars to back up nearly 5 miles.

The BMW X3 was totaled in the wreck, said Raines.

GSP is still investigating the accident and charges are pending.
