Santa’s Cause collecting hygiene products for elderly


Members of Long Cane Masonic Lodge are collecting hygiene products for residents of local nursing homes as part of Santa’s Cause. Items sought are family-sized soaps, shampoos, talcum powder, deodorants, denture creams and powders, tooth paste, tooth brushes, hair brushes and combs. Donations may be taken to Tech Tires at 1313 Hogansville Road and Hog Heaven at 2240 West Point Road or 1302 Lafayette Parkway through Dec. 31.


Donations collected for Up All Night Christmas meal


Organizers of the Up All Night Christmas dinner are seeking vegetables and dessert items, along with ham, turkey, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, dressing, macaroni and cheese, plates, carry-out containers, cups, napkins and plastic cutlery. Donations may be taken to Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home at 201 Hamilton Road; Good Seed Christain Bookstore on South Greenwood Street; WJCN TV in the Callaway Conference Center at West Georgia Technical College; and WTRP AM 620 radio at 806 New Franklin Road. LifeSouth blood drives


LifeSouth will hold the following blood drives in the area:


•Lanier Health Services in Valley, Ala., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.


•Lanett High School, 1301 S. 8th Ave. in Lanett, Ala., from 7:30 a.m. 2 p.m. Friday.


•Walmart of Valley from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.


Care baskets for breast cancer patients


The Troup County breast cancer support group, Breast Friends for Life, is in need of new or gently used baskets. BFFL makes gift baskets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Baskets need to have a handle. No Christmas or Easter baskets. Baskets may be dropped off with Wanda Lowe at Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, 111 Medical Drive next to West Georgia Health. Center seeking donations for clothes, money


The Yolanda Jabaley Clothing Center is in need of children’s clothes and clothes for teenagers. Money donated to the center is used to buy new underwear and shoes. Hours of the center are 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March through May. To donate items when the center isn’t open, call director Rose Meister at 706-302-0179 or Bergeron at 706-885-9388. Monetary donations may be made to treasurer Joy Burnham, 2572 Dallis Mill Road, LaGrange GA 30241.


Local raising money for diabetes research


Polly Griesbach, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 2, is raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund by running in the Walt Disney World Marathon on Jan. 12, 2014. Her goal is to raise $2,750 for the 26.2-mile run. Donations for the fund can be made on her behalf at www2.jdrf.org/goto/runwithmickey


United Way seeking weekly readers
