Church to host car wash for veterans

Faith Baptist Church hosts a free car wash for veterans and will accept donations from all others who get a car wash to fund the church’s Veterans of Faith Ministry. The car wash is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Beechwood Furniture on Commerce Avenue.

Dodge ball tournament to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters

The LaGrange chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts the inaugural Back to School Dodge Ball Trifecta on Saturday with follow-up games on Aug. 3 and 10. Proceeds benefits the local chapter. Each game starts at 5 p.m. and is planned to last until 8 p.m. It is $10 to play one night of dodge ball, or $25 to play all three nights, which includes a meal each night plus one T-shirt. Humane Society to host Fur Ball

The LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society hosts its 15th annual Fur Ball at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Highland Country Club. Food will be served, and there will be music by band Mr. Terrific and a silent auction. Proceeds raised from the Fur Ball benefit the Humane Society. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased by contacting Marsha Schubert with the Humane Society at 706-298-3608. The LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society is located in the Holland M. Ware Animal Shelter, 1390 Orchard Hill Road.

Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ to benefit Emmaus Shelter

The Emmaus Shelter hosts its fourth annual Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ fundraiser Aug. 30. Participants bring homemade ice cream to the event on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange and offer it to attendees at reserved booths. The event starts at 2 p.m. To sample ice cream, a family pass is $20 and individual pass is $5. Children also can ride a train and enjoy hot dogs and popcorn. The Little Miss and Little Mister contests for children up to 16 years old dressed in their “Sunday best.” Entry for the contest is $15 or 3 gallons of ice cream. There also will be a talent show at no cost to entrants – choirs, dancers, karate practitioners and other family performers are welcome. United Way Merry Market

The fifth annual Merry Market is Oct. 22–24 at the Callaway Conference Center at the West Georgia Technical College campus on Fort Drive. Merry Market is a three-day event featuring gifts, accessories and decorative items by vendors from across the country. As a major fundraiser for the United Way of West Georgia, Merry Market provides funds for early learning in Troup County.
