LifeSouth blood drives
LifeSouth will host the following blood drives in the area:
• Walmart of Valley, Ala., 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Tuesday.
• Givorn’s Foods of Valley, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesday.
• West Georgia Health, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday.
• Walmart on New Franklin Road, noon–6 p.m. Saturday.
Supply donations sought for students, teachers
Local business leaders are seeking donations of school supplies for the Stuff the Bus campaign now through Friday. Anyone interested who wants to purchase items in bulk to donate may call Loy’s Office Supplies in LaGrange at 706-884-1723. Those who want to donate a few items can either drop them off at the Kia of LaGrange car dealership, 1217 Lafayette Parkway, or Jackson Heating and Air, 1411 Whitesville St. Anyone seeking more information may call Kia of LaGrange at 706-298-5024 and ask for Randy Jackson or John Gerdeman. Items sought include dry-erase markers, small boards and erasers; colored folders with pockets and tabs; back packs; notebooks; three-ring binders; pencils and erasers; computer and notebook paper; books; gift cards from teacherspayteachers.com or Scholastic Books; small plastic baskets; index cards; and tissues, clean-up wipes and toilet paper.
Emmaus House seeking ‘crankers,’ sponsors for ice cream fundraiser
Emmaus House is seeking “crankers” for its fourth annual Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ fundraiser Aug. 30. Participants bring homemade ice cream to the event on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange and offer it to attendees at reserved booths. Cost is $150 per booth. There also are sponsorship opportunities with a Major Scoop sponsorship option to have an assigned spot, be part of the stage show and display the organization’s product for $300. Groups also can pay $75 to be on the custom event apron. Donations sought for van to transport veterans
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 in LaGrange is seeking donations to purchase a new van used to transport area veterans to important medical appointments in Atlanta and other cities. To contribute, contact Dave Lyons at 706-882-7825, or mail in donations to DAV Chapter 31, P.O. Box 4023, LaGrange, GA 30241. The chapter requests that checks be made payable to DAV, Chapter 31.
Drivers needed for disabled veterans
The Disabled American Veterans van needs volunteer drivers to take veterans about once a month to VA medical centers. The van goes to Atlanta, East Point and Newnan each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and to Central Alabama Medical Center in Tuskegee on Tuesdays and Fridays. Volunteer drivers must be at least 19 years old, have a three-year clean driving record and pass a complete physical exam, which is provided free by the VA hospital. Center seeking donations for clothes, money
The Yolanda Jabaley Clothing Center is in need of children’s clothes and clothes for teenagers. Money donated to the center is used to buy new underwear and shoes. Hours of the center are 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, August through May. To donate items when the center isn’t open, call director Rose Meister at 706-302-0179 or Fern Bergeron at 706-885-9388. Care baskets for breast cancer patients
The Troup County breast cancer support group, Breast Friends for Life, is in need of new or gently used baskets. BFFL makes gift baskets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Baskets need to have a handle. No Christmas or Easter baskets. Baskets may be dropped off with Wanda Lowe at Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, 111 Medical Drive next to West Georgia Health. United Way Merry Market fundraiser vendors sought
United Way of West Georgia is currently accepting applications for the fifth annual Merry Market to be held Oct. 22–24 at the Callaway Conference Center on the West Georgia Technical College campus on Fort Drive. Merry Market offers gifts, accessories and items by vendors, with proceeds funding early learning programs in Troup County.
