LifeSouth blood drives
LifeSouth will host the following blood drives in the area:
• Walmart of Roanoke, Ala., 10 a.m.–4 p.m. CST Monday.
• Charter Bank of West Point, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesday.
• Bank of Wedowee in Roanoke, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. CST Thursday.
• Miliken Live Oak in LaGrange, 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Friday.
• Walmart of Valley, Ala., 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday.
• Walmart of Valley, noon–5 p.m. Sunday.
Emmaus House seeking ‘crankers,’ sponsors for ice cream fundraiser
Emmaus House is seeking “crankers” for its fourth annual Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ fundraiser Aug. 30. Participants bring homemade ice cream to the event on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange and offer it to attendees at reserved booths. Cost is $150 per booth. There also are sponsorship opportunities with a Major Scoop sponsorship option to have an assigned spot, be part of the stage show and display the organization’s product for $300. Groups also can pay $75 to be on the custom event apron. Drivers needed for disabled veterans
The Disabled American Veterans van needs volunteer drivers to take veterans about once a month to VA medical centers. The van goes to Atlanta, East Point and Newnan each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and to Central Alabama Medical Center in Tuskegee on Tuesdays and Fridays. Volunteer drivers must be at least 19 years old, have a three-year clean driving record and pass a complete physical exam, which is provided free by the VA hospital. Center seeking donations for clothes, money
The Yolanda Jabaley Clothing Center is seeking volunteers and gently used clothing donations, and new packages of socks and underwear for men, women and children. Money donated to the center is used to buy new underwear and shoes. The center is open 10 a.m.–noon Tuesdays and 1–3 p.m. Thursdays. Wanda-Ann Kinnaman, C/o First United Methodist Church, 401 Broad St., LaGrange, GA 30240. Donations should not be left outside the clothing center when it is closed.
Care baskets for breast cancer patients
The Troup County breast cancer support group, Breast Friends for Life, is in need of new or gently used baskets. BFFL makes gift baskets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Baskets need to have a handle. No Christmas or Easter baskets. Baskets may be dropped off with Wanda Lowe at Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, 111 Medical Drive next to West Georgia Health. United Way Merry Market fundraiser vendors sought
United Way of West Georgia is currently accepting applications for the fifth annual Merry Market to be held Oct. 22–24 at the Callaway Conference Center on the West Georgia Technical College campus on Fort Drive. Merry Market offers gifts, accessories and items by vendors, with proceeds funding early learning programs in Troup County.
