LaGRANGE — Baptist Tabernacle Church at 849 South Davis Road held a blood drive Monday and collected nearly 100 units of blood with the American Red Cross.

“Several of our church family are battling cancer and that’s what sparked our interest in the blood drive,” said Cindy Bowen, a member of the church. “We actually had a total of 101 presenting donors and received 93 units of blood.”

Steven Tennant of the American Red Cross said the blood drive was the largest, most successful drive in LaGrange and Columbus in more than a year.

Every day, more than 41,000 blood donations are needed and someone needs a donation every two seconds in the United States, according to the American Red Cross.

A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
