COLUMBUS – The LaGrange Lady Grangers kicked off their region softball schedule with a one-sided victory over Carver on Thursday.

LaGrange was supposed to begin its Region 1-AAAAA schedule on Tuesday against Hardaway, but that game was postponed because of rain.

Two days later, the Lady Grangers were in Columbus for their region opener, and they rolled to a 12-0 victory in a game shortened to four innings because of the run rule.

After a scoreless first inning, LaGrange scored three runs in the second inning, and it added five more runs in the third inning before capping the scoring with a four-run fourth inning.

LaGrange finished with 11 hits, while Carver managed just one hit against McClain Skinner, who had seven strikeouts in four innings.

Harley Parker had three hits for LaGrange, and Lauren Kuerzi and Cassidy Creed added two hits apiece.

Creed had three RBIs, and Parker and Destiny Fitzpatrick each drove in two runs.

Things should get more difficult on Tuesday when LaGrange hosts Northside in a matchup of two of the four teams from Region 1-AAAAA that made it to the state playoffs a year ago.
