Music space to celebrate anniversary

LaGRANGE — A local event and music space will celebrate its one-year anniversary Saturday with a special performance by a Georgia Music Award winner.
Pure Life Studios, 206 Clark St., opens its doors with a live performance from Paris Luna and friends scheduled for 7:30 p.m. A $20 cash donation is requested at the door. The musicians’ songs are rooted in many musical traditions like country, rock and americana. The band has opened for artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sheryl Crow, Uncle Kracker, Kenny Chesney and many others, according to Maggie McDonald, owner and operator of Pure Life Studios.
McDonald invites the public to come and experience new music and familiarize themselves with the music space.
“The manual labor and contracts are the easy part (of running the studio),” she said. “It’s filling the room that becomes a challenge. If people aren’t familiar with an artist that’s performing, it’s challenging to inform them and get them excited about original music, good covers and sometimes something unexpected.”
Paris Luna is also a dichotomy, McDonald said. It’s the name of the band and musician Heather Russell’s stage name. Paris Luna won top Female Artist of the 2012 Georgia Music Award for their song “Tell Me Why,” and was a part of Barry Waldrep’s all-star project “Smoke From the Kitchen.” Her songs have been placed in programming for the networks Showtime, Lifetime and MTV and have been heard around the world on many shows through the Discovery Channel.
In operating Pure Life Studios, McDonald said she enjoys bringing artists like Paris Luna to LaGrange, and hopes to make music a mainstay in the community, but running the studio has also been a family affair.
“(I’d like to) keep music at the front and center of our weekends. My whole family is involved, and we all have a part. It’s made us really rely, trust and encourage each other. It’s great to see my sons find their strength.”
McDonald invites the community to visit Pure Life Studios on Saturday and see the acoustic listening room.
“We provide live music and a gathering place for friends to enjoy local talent and featured guests,” she said. “Pure Life promotes development, originality and supports creativity in the community. There are no favorites, there are just favorite moments by each featured guest and great nights each time we present an artist.”
Appetizers from 505 eats, giveaways and music are all part of the celebration, she added.
