Staff report

LaGRANGE — The Yolanda K. Jabaley Clothing Center located at 201 Bryon Hurst St. in LaGrange will open noon to 2 p.m. Monday in honor of veterans for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Veterans in need should bring their DD214, Military ID or veteran’s card for screening along with a photo ID. Veteran participants will check in with the local LaGrange Veterans of Foreign War Post #4629 along with Clothing Center volunteers and then shop — for free — through a selection of specially donated and collected clothing.

Public donations of clean, wearable clothing and shoes for this special veterans event and regular service are accepted at the Clothing Center on Tuesdays 10 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

Monetary donations may be made to the Yolanda K. Jabaley Clothing Center, 401 Broad St., LaGrange, GA 30240.

The Clothing Center has operated since 1951, and it operates entirely by volunteers and members of the LaGrange and Troup Council of Church Women and their member churches. The year 2014 saw the move of the Clothing Center to its permanent location at 201 Byron Hurst St.

More than 3,600 children and just fewer than 3000 families were served last year with numbers consistently on the rise. Clean, wearable clothing and shoes are always accepted during operating hours in August through May, and tax receipts are available upon request.

In addition to clothing the Center also supports a new shoe voucher program through a screening partnership with the Troup County School System and a biannual gift of new underwear and socks for families in need with children from birth through age 18 who remain in secondary school.

Volunteers and new member churches who are interested in more information or being part of this organization should contact clothingcenterdirector@gmail.com.
