WEST POINT — The holiday show “Once Upon A December” is returning to New Horizon Community Theatre on Tuesday.
The award-winning cast and orchestra will perform one night only at 7 p.m. with all proceeds going to benefit the nonprofit New Horizon Community Theatre. “Once Upon A December” is presented and directed by Julia Langley, who has also been New Horizon’s camp director for the past six years.
“As the director of New Horizon’s summer theater camp, I have seen this theater grow and change,” Langley said in a written statement. “It impacts so many lives of aspiring performers in the area and is a gem in the community. Not only does it give local performers the opportunity to show off their acting and singing skills, but they also provide valuable scholarships each year to people for excellence in the arts.”
New Horizon has promoted a building campaign for the last few years in order to upgrade and expand the theater on West 8th Street.
“I’m so proud to present a show that will help with this growth process,” Langley said.
“Once Upon A December” boasts a six-piece band including regionally known “Alabama Avenue” and guest performer Suzana Pavlovic, a world-renowned cellist who has performed with Yo-Yo Ma and several United States presidents.
Langley, international singer and chanteuse for Cirque Productions, will perform alongside her sister, Jamie Langley, who is Miss Alabama 2007, and Bill Nixon, managing artistic director of New Horizon Community Theatre. There will be 20 local performers singing and dancing their way through holiday and traditional Christmas favorites.
“It’s a perfect event to put your whole family into the Christmas spirit,” said Langley. “And after the show, you should still have time for dinner and more Christmas celebration.”
Tickets are on sale for $15 at www.NHCT.org. All proceeds will benefit the theater.
