LaGRANGE — The first baby born in 2016 in Troup County at West Georgia Medical Center is Abigail Katherine Gray, who weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces.

She was born at 12:08 a.m. Friday and was delivered by Dr. Brett Bowie.

Her parents are Katie Janes and Wesley Gray. Her older brother is Zander Janes, 10, of Hogansville.

The baby was presented with a bounty of gifts including a gift basket from the hospital gift shop, Expressions from the Heart; a hand-knitted purple cap and parenting materials from the program Period of Purple Crying, presented from Norma Tucker, First Steps program coordinator at West Georgia Health; and special gifts from Tommy Griggs, a grandfather of two, whose daughter gave birth to the first baby of 2014 in Troup County.

Griggs has continued to visit the firstborn baby of Troup County each year in honor of his grandchild and presented the family with well-wishes and a monetary donation in honor of the Troup County New Year’s Day baby.
