LAGRANGE – They tried to make things interesting.
After falling behind by 22 points in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against the visiting Manchester Blue Devils, the Troup Tigers went on a late 10-0 run.
The deficit proved to be too great, though, and it was Manchester capturing the 61-49 victory in a non-region game.
It was the conclusion of a tough couple of days for Troup, which lost to Fayette County 53-27 on Friday in a Region 5-AAAA game.
The Tigers (5-10 overall) will carry an 0-4 region record into Tuesday’s home game against Carrollton.
Against Manchester, Troup was done in by a difficult third period.
Even after surrendering 28 points in the second quarter, the Tigers were still within seven points at the half.
In the third period, Troup was outscored 14-4, and Manchester took a 49-32 lead into the final quarter.
After that deficit grew to more than 20 points, Troup made a move.
Sophomore guard Jarrious Jefferson completed a three-point play with 5:46 left in the game to make it an 18-point game, and Montez Crowe scored 20 seconds later to make the score 55-39.
The momentum fizzled at that point and the Tigers were once again down by 22 points with less than four minutes to go when they made another charge.
Dexter Shealey’s three-point play got the Tigers going, and when Jefferson made a free throw to complete a 10-0 run, the Blue Devils’ lead was 12.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were unable to score again, and it was the Blue Devils securing the road win.
Jefferson led Troup with 17 points, and he scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and Shealey added eight points.
In Friday’s game against Fayette County, Troup couldn’t get anything going offensively.
The Tigers didn’t have more than eight points in a quarter, and no one scored more than six points.
Fayette County led 16-7 after the first period, 29-15 at the half, and 51-19 at the close of the third quarter.
