ATLANTA – LaGrange High’s Allie Paschal had herself quite a showing at the state swim meet at Georgia Tech.

For the second straight year, Paschal swam away with a pair of top-five individual finishes at the state meet, and she was also a part of a relay team that finished fourth.

As a team, the Grangers finished ninth, which is particularly impressive considering they were competing against teams from Class A up to Class AAAAA.

Paschal nearly won a gold medal in the finals on Saturday.

Paschal, a junior, finished second in the 50-yard freestyle to Donna Blaum of Starr’s Mill, who won the state title for the second straight year.

Blaum won the race with a time of 23.44 seconds, and Paschal was just 16/100th of a second behind.

Paschal also had a strong showing in the 100-yard backstroke with a third-place finish.

Also for LaGrange, senior Christine Yin made her final state appearance a memorable one with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

Sydney Mauldin added a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

LaGrange’s 200-yard medley team delivered a strong performance that was one of the state’s best.

The team of Paschal (backstroke), Camille Preston (breakstroke), Mauldin (butterfly) and Yin (freestyle) finished fourth.

Those same four swimmers also finished 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

While Yin is graduating, Paschal, Preston and Mauldin will all return next season.

Troup’s Andrew Ingram also participated in the state meet, and he competed in the 100-yard butterfly.

It was the final state appearance for Ingram, who is a senior.
