LAGRANGE – It’s time for Round 3.

The Troup Tigers and Carrollton Trojans have played twice this season, with each team winning once.

They’ll meet again today in the opening round of the Region 5-AAAA tournament, and the stakes are high.

The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals of the region tournament, and it will also qualify for the state tournament.

For the loser, the season will end.

Carrollton will be the host team for today’s game, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.

That will be the first of a whole bunch of tournament games for the local teams this week.

The girls’ teams from LaGrange and Troup will both play on Tuesday in the opening round of their region tournaments, and they’ll be fighting to keep their seasons alive.

Both Callaway teams, along with the LaGrange Grangers, have byes into the semifinals of their region tournaments, and they won’t play until Friday.

The Troup Tigers are hoping to see a replay of their first game against Carrollton.

The Tigers scored 32 points in the fourth quarter, and they blew out the Trojans 66-38, with sophomore guard Jarrious Jefferson leading the way with 15 points.

In the rematch, which was played Friday night in Carrollton, Troup lost 54-40.

The Tigers (7-14 overall) are the sixth seed after finishing with a 2-8 region record, while the Trojans are seeded third (12-13, 5-5 in region play).

The winner of today’s game will play second-seeded Woodward Academy on Wednesday at 6 p.m., and that game will be at Woodward.

The Troup Lady Tigers will be on the road against Fayette County on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and it will be the third meeting of the season between those teams.

On Jan. 15, Troup beat Fayette County 49-33 for its only region win of the season.

It was a close game the second time around, with Fayette County beating Troup 50-40.

The Lady Tigers (7-15 overall) went 1-9 in the region and they’re the number six seed, and Fayette County (10-14, 5-5) is seeded third.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will face Woodward Academy on Thursday at 6 p.m., and that game will be played at Carrollton.

The region-championship games in Region 5-AAAA, and the third-place games, will be at Carrollton on Friday.

Also on Tuesday, the LaGrange Lady Grangers will play their opening game in the Region 1-AAAAA tournament, and they’re hoping it won’t be their final game of the season.

LaGrange is the number five seed, and it will visit fourth-seeded Harris County, with the game set to begin at 6 p.m.

LaGrange (9-13 overall) had a 3-9 region record in the regular season, while Harris County (17-8) was 6-6 in the region.

Both games between the teams this season have been close.

LaGrange lost 57-52 at home, and it dropped the road game 53-41.

The LaGrange Grangers wrapped up Region 1-AAAAA’s number one seed with Friday’s dramatic 71-68, double-overtime victory over Northside.

Senior Mike Hardy scored on a putback with seconds left to lift the Grangers to the win and give them the top seed.

That means LaGrange not only has a bye into the semifinals, but it will be the host team.

Northside and Harris County will play on Wednesday, and the winner of that game will face LaGrange on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Grangers had an exceptional regular season.

They’re 20-5 overall, and they won the region’s regular-season title with a 20-5 record.

Whatever happens in the region tournament, LaGrange has already secured a spot in the state tournament.

The same goes for the Callaway teams, who will play semifinal games in the Region 5-AAA tournament on Friday at Central-Carroll.

The Lady Cavaliers (10-9 overall) finished second in the region with a 7-3 record, and they’ll play either third-seeded Pepperell or sixth-seeded Central-Carroll on Friday at 4 p.m.

Callaway is 2-0 against both Central and Pepperell this season.

If Callaway gets past the semifinals, it would likely face top-seeded Haralson County in Saturday’s championship game at 6 p.m.

Haralson County (24-1 overall) went 10-0 in the region, and it has won 24 straight games overall.

The Callaway Cavaliers (16-3 overall) rolled to the regular-season title with a 10-0 record, and now they’ll try to win a fourth straight region-tournament championship.

Callaway will play the winner of the game between Cedartown and Central-Carroll on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

The boys’ region-championship game is Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
