LaGRANGE — A local high school alumni group is slated to host a benefit concert at the Troup High School auditorium on Hamilton Road.
The THS Alumni Association is set to host The Sock Hops — a 50s, 60s and 70s cover band — at the auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 13).
General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and the alumni association will use the proceeds to help fund field trips and other activities at THS.
To purchase advanced tickets, call Ellis Cadenhead at 770-713-4564.
The Sock Hops are a Marietta-based band that has opened for The Temptations, Three Dog Night, the Swingin’ Medallions and other rock ‘n’ roll bands, according to the band’s website. The four-person band has been performing since 1989.
Ellis Cadenhead, a 1961 THS graduate and member of the association, said the group performed at a similar benefit last year and he’s hoping to raise more money this year to support THS.
“The Sock Hops are a really good group,” he said. “I’ve heard them live and they do wonderful job.”
The THS Alumni Association holds periodic fundraisers that benefit activities and events at THS, Cadenhead said. About 25 THS graduates make up the group, and they meet at the school’s media center on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Those meetings are open to graduates of THS and associate members.
In the past, the association has held raffles, barbecues other events to benefit THS, Cadenhead said. The electronic marquee that sits outside the front of the school was purchased with funds raised by the association, he noted.
