LaGRANGE — The Georgia State Patrol confirmed Friday morning one man was killed Wednesday in a two-car collision at the intersection of Hamilton and Pine Hill roads south of LaGrange.

The wreck happened about 7 p.m., said GSP Sgt. Maurice Raines, commander of GSP Post 2 in LaGrange.

Raines said the driver of a 2007 Lincoln MKZ, identified as Shonn Patterson, 44, of LaGrange, was stopped at a stop sign on Pine Hill Road signaling to turn left onto Hamilton Road when he pulled in front of a Ford F-250 truck.

The truck, owned by the Troup County roads department and driven by a county employee who was on duty at the time, slammed into the Lincoln’s driver side. Patterson was killed on impact, Raines said.

The county truck was traveling south on Hamilton Road when the collision occurred, and its driver suffered a minor injury but was not taken to the hospital, according to a representative of the county.

The roads department employee was on leave Thursday, but has returned to work today, according to the county’s human resources office.

A representative from the county said this morning the employee was returning from a site where repairs are underway to fix a flood-damaged road.

Raines said they are still investigating the accident.
