LaGRANGE — The Heart of West Georgia recently announced its 15th annual golf tournament will be held at Highland Country Club on April 14, 2016.
This year’s co-honorees for the tournament are Wayne and Sylvia Hunter, who have supported the projects for the Heart of West Georgia throughout the last 15 years.
Any individual or business seeking to participate in the golf tournament can choose from five different levels of sponsorship. Interested companies can also donate prizes or gifts to the organization and receive recognition at the tournament and the Heart of West Georgia website.

“HOWG is a registered 501c3 and our mission is to raise funds for heart education, cardiovascular projects, women’s health and obesity to support the people of west Georgia,” states a press release from the group. “All monies raised remain in our community as we work to battle our nation’s number one killer, heart disease.”
Heart of West Georgia has helped place more than 170 automated external defibrillator, or AED, units in the area, the group states, including at the Pineland Sherriff’s Home, Troup Senior Center, the McClusky Tennis Center, Troup County Recreation Center and numerous churches and public facilities.
The group’s board recently approved a grant for four new units for the Troup County Sherriff’s Office.
“We have also assisted with grants for specific heart-related projects for the West Georgia Rehab Clinic, Troup Cares, Healthy Troup, West Georgia Health, Emory Clark Holder Clinic, Vernon Woods and LaGrange College, and funded a childhood obesity initiative at Long Cane Middle School,” the press release states.
