LaGRANGE — A man was saved in a dramatic rescue Friday on Callaway Avenue after a car he was working on rolled over him and trapped him.
The man, who police said is about 37 years old, was freed at about 5 p.m. by LaGrange police and firefighters using hydraulic lifts and wood blocks.
The man was trapped for about 20 minutes.
After being rescued, he was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with a possible broken leg, according to LaGrange Police Detective John Slonaker and Troup County 911.
His condition was unavailable at press time Friday evening, but the victim was conscious and speaking with emergency workers as they tried to free him.
The vehicle was parked on Callaway Avenue in a residential neighborhood when the roll-over occurred.
The victim was possibly working on the starter of a late-model sedan when the accident happened, Slonaker said.
Witnesses told police the man had called for a screw driver just before the car rolled over him. Police believe the incident was an accident, Slonaker said.
