LaGRANGE — The LaGrange Woman’s Club will host a barbecue fundraiser Wednesday, March 16, to benefit Bellevue.

“The fundraiser helps us maintain Bellevue, which is one of LaGrange’s tourist sites and part of LaGrange’s history,” said Judy Bledsoe, chairman for the barbecue.

This is the 10th year for the barbecue, which will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bellevue parking lot. Tickets are $10.

Bellevue is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in the 1850s and was the home of Benjamin Harvey Hill, a U.S. Senator from 1877 to 1882.

The Callaway Foundation restored the home in the 1970s, then the LaGrange Woman’s Club took over maintenance.

“It costs a lot to maintain,” Bledsoe said. “Everything that goes on at Bellevue is for the community.”

The historic home is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m.
