LaGRANGE — The LaGrange Post Office at 950 Lafayette Parkway will host a Passport Fair for the general public noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

In January, federal officials warned potential travelers and vacationers to get their paperwork in order because an estimated 49 million passports are set to expire within the next three years. A U.S. law that took effect in 2007 requires all U.S. citizens to use a passport when traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Nearly 18 million passports were issued in that year and all are nearly up for renewal.

“These fairs afford the public an opportunity to take care of new applications and renewals,” said LaGrange Postmaster Robert Lovin. “If you’re planning to travel, you should definitely take advantage of our event to get the application completed.”

No appointments will be necessary to apply for or renew passports during Saturday’s passport fair.
