LaGRANGE — A local manufacturer that employs 300 people and makes brake pads for Toyota, Ford and Chrysler celebrated 20 years in Troup County on Tuesday.

Advics Manufacturing Georgia, 1621 W. Lukken Industrial Dr. — formerly Safa — hosted its parent company’s executives from Japan for the name-change and anniversary celebration. The event included guest speakers, including Mayor Jim Thornton, and was attended by council member Norma Tucker and other city officials.

“This is a fantastic day,” said Scott Malone, executive director of the LaGrange Development Authority, which recruits and retains large-scale employers to the city. “Advics’ 20 years of growth is indicative of the kind of business we want here.”

During its 20-year stint in LaGrange, Advics has expanded four times, and it is eyeing future expansions, said Deborah Marchman, the company’s human resources manager.

“There’s always growth possibility, and we know that’s coming over the next year or so,” she said.

Advics has a global network for the development, production and sales of vehicle products, with facilities in North America, Asia and Europe. They supply “the very best systems for our customers’ needs, anywhere in the world,” according to a company statement.

The company’s North American operations are headquartered in Ohio and began in 2002, and in 2014 included a net sales of $930 million, according to the company’s website.

Advics’ parent company, also of the same name, was founded in 2001.
