HOGANSVILLE — The Georgia State Patrol this morning was still investigating a wreck between a car and a van hauling a trailer that injured five people in the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near Hogansville.
The accident happened Monday just before 7 p.m., said GSP officials.
The driver of a Chevrolet Express van told troopers he was traveling in the left northbound lane when he noticed another car approaching behind him at a high rate of speed. He told troopers the last thing he remembered was overturning inside the van and landing in the median.
The driver of the other car, an Infiniti Q60 sedan, was also traveling in the left lane and struck the trailer behind the van, according to information from state patrol.
The trailer swerved into the right lane, veered “violently” back into the left lane and smashed into both the van and the Infiniti, according to information from GSP. The collision caused both vehicles to overturn into the median.
The driver of the Infiniti was taken by helicopter to Grady hospital in Atlanta, GSP officials stated.
The passenger in that car and three people in the van were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Their names and conditions were unavailable as of press time.
State patrol did not release if any charges may be filed in the wreck.
